The prices on these are so inflated , god.

But no other car lets you live life a quarter mile at a time.

Not true, the R35 GTR does that.

If this stays in this condition for a decade or two, it's going to end up at some Barrett-Jackson auction and sell in the six figures easily.

1/4 mile between transmission replacements, maybe.

My plan is to buy one that's been modded to death and then restore it. I should be able to do it for less than $80k lol

Precisely. Seems stupid now, but in twenty years, we'll all be kicking ourselves for not being the one that ponied up.

Yeah, JZA80s are becoming collectible vehicles now that few ones remain in stock and immaculate condition. Not news.

It's funny how incredibly expensive Supras and NSXs have become while turbo Z32 300ZXs and RX7s are completely reasonable.

I remember there being a 6 speed turbo on Ebay that was sitting on chrome 24s and had all of the ricer go-fast bits. It went for something like $18,000. If you were to put a couple thousand dollars into making it stock, it could easily be worth $40,000. Easy profits.

That's what I try to explain to people; when you buy a car, appreciation should be a factor. Considering what a good investment a nice JZA80 is, the prices are somewhat warranted.

It is a pretty car but not that pretty.

I think so, but most would beg to differ. There are so few immaculate Supras that there are enough people who agree and have tons of money to buy them up at insane prices.

Seriously. Forget restoring classic American muscle and start flipping Japanese sports cars from the 90's.

NEVER give up. If an ~$80-90k Supra is your dream car, then keep doing what you need to ensure your butt gets planted in that drivers seat. It doesn't matter that it's almost 6 figures, because you can have a six figure bank account, or six figure investments with a little planning and a looot of diligence and dedication. It doesn't matter if you fail, because failure is one of the keys to success. You only have one shot to do it while you're still alive, so you may as well plow forward as much as you can, while you can. You can surrender after you're dead. While you are alive, never give up. Never give up.

Pretty much my dream Supra. But $80k?

This is the same price. Guess which one I'd buy.

It's amazing the value of a car will change from generation to generation. You can get a $4K Mk3 or the typical $40k for a Mk4. Same with M3's—E36's are are a dime a dozen but the E30's priced as classics.
I'm not saying there isn't reason for this "wealth gap" but just that it's fascinating....

I owned one back in the day. It is NOT worth $80k. I think this is a case of don't buy your hero, it will never live up to your expectations.

Thank you for the inspirational words—I couldn't have put it better myself. However, I just don't have the ambition, work ethic, or tolerance for stress to end up being a successful person. I'd say that my temperament is closer to that of a hobo than that of an affluent or accomplished person. There was a time when all I could think about was what I could do in the future (and what cars I could buy as a result), but people change, and their goals change with them. Maybe one day I will find myself with a renewed lust for achieving my long lost dreams; but for now, I will probably idly sit around and obsess over cars.
